About RheumTalks

Welcome to RheumTalks! We're trying to do things a little differently with medical education than you've seen in the past.

We recognize that you're busy and your time is important. We strive to maximize your learning opportunities during each visit. Why? Because we care about your knowledge. After all, you could be taking care of our families some day!

Our Guiding Principles

At the heart of RheumTalks CME are five (5) guiding principles:

  1. All content is written and reviewed by health care professionals (typically rheumatologists)
  2. Each of our modules focuses on a single learning objective
  3. A succinct answer is provided for each learning objective (The Answer)
  4. A more detailed explanation is provided for deeper learning (The Skinny)
  5. We try to entertain, tell stories, and use humour when possible to make learning a bit more fun. The Walt Disney Company called it "edutainment", and its not just for kids.

Our sister site, RheumInfo.com is the #1 rheumatology site for physicians with hundreds of thousands of page views.

Commerce is fine. Advertising is not evil. But it doesn't belong here. Not in Rheumtalks.com.

RheumTalks is something special. It is like a public library and a temple for your mind. It is a place you can come to think and learn.

When we founded RheumInfo & RheumTalks, we could have included prominent advertising banners, but we decided to do something different. We’ve worked hard over the years to keep it lean and tight. We fulfill our mission efficiently.

If everyone reading this signed up for our $5 monthly plan, our content, programs, and courses would be that much better. But not everyone can or will sign up. And that's fine. Please remember that it takes a great deal of dedicated time and resources to develop quality medical education. As long as each year just enough people decide to contribute we'll be fine.

This year, please consider signing up to protect and sustain RheumInfo and Rheumtalks.com.

Our Content

RheumTalks offers two levels of depth in its programming: RheumTalks Courses and RheumTalks Modules.

RheumTalks Courses are multi-topic educational series comprised of several sections, each containing one or more learning modules. Courses are designed to be completed gradually over a period of time and can lead to the certification of participants.

RheumTalks Programs are focused, single-topic educational programs comprised of one or more learning modules.

The learning modules that serve as the core building blocks of both Courses and Programs are designed to be completed in 5-10 minutes and focus on a single learning objective.

Our Team

The brainchild behind RheumTalks is Dr. Andy Thompson. Andy was fed up with traditional CME, especially the tragedy of online CME. Instead of complaining, he gathered a team and decided to fix it.

Andy is formally trained in Education (he has a Masters) and likes to do things a bit differently. He believes in building a solid core cognitive knowledge base. Realizing that many individuals don't have a properly constructed cognitive framework on which to hang new concepts, Andy uses story telling and real cases to help his learners (the way case based learning is supposed to be). Andy thinks learning should be fun and you'll certainly get a sense of his slightly off-the-wall sense of humour.

Mark Atkinson & Kevin Firko are the other two brainchildren behind RheumTalks. Mark is in charge of all project management, has a keen sense of branding, and is an organizational wizard who keeps everyone on track! Kevin is our tech guru whose knowledge on most any subject seems to be expansive (we guess that's what happens when you spend 24 hours a day online).
